Concealed Handgun Permit Holders:
The only jurisdiction with which Virginia currently has reciprocity is the State of Tennessee. An offer has been extended to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania but they have not responded to date. There are also several jurisdictions that recognize Virginia permits even though the Commonwealth does not recognize theirs. I am providing a list of those jurisdictions below but must recommend that you contact any jurisdiction to ensure that you have the most up to date information and comply with any restrictions.
Rhode Island - limited recognition - (401) 274-4400
Vermont - (802) 828-3171
The Virginia Department of State Police also posts those jurisdictions with which we have reciprocal agreements as well as other useful information on their website, http://www.vsp.state.va.us/vsp.html. I hope this information is helpful. If you have further questions please feel free to call me at (804) 786-1226.
Very truly yours,
Thomas J. Lambert
Assistant Attorney General
